Science is essential to the advancement of society. The transformation kits and the gel electrophoresis kits will help students learn how scientists utilize biotechnology to solve everyday societal problems.
They will get hands on experience working like a real scientist. Like real scientists, students will use transformation techniques to introduce foreign DNA into bacteria. These transformed organisms will express genes that will give them antibiotic resistance and the ability to glow in the dark. In real life this technology can be used to create products needed by humans. Some such products include: insulin and human growth hormone. The gel electrophoresis kit will also allow students obtain hands on experience with DNA manipulation. Students will use electricity to separate DNA fragments in order to obtain a DNA profile. This technology is essential for any aspiring young scientist.
