My school does the best they can to provide us with materials and resources that we can use in our classrooms. Unfortunately, technology is one thing that does not take priority. I do my best to utilize the two computers I have in my classroom and my promethean board during each and every lesson I teach but I feel this is not enough for my students. I teach in a low-income neighborhood where many of my students home lives comes through in their academics. Many of my students are below grade level when it comes to most subject areas but especially when it comes to reading.
Reading is the base of everything in school. My students would be able to soar to so many heights if only they had the proper tools to guide them there. My below grade level readers would be able to use iPads throughout the day to help them with their reading. iPads give them the ability to see up close what they are reading, listen to how letters and words are suppose to sound, and even give them the opportunity to hear themselves read. All of these things would help them to grow when it comes to their reading and comprehension skills. They would also be able to use these devices in other areas such as math and writing.
