The Kitchen Aid vegetable slicer attachment and juicer will allow my students to use fresh vegetables that we are growing in our gardens to substitute processed pastas and juices in meals. They will be used to make many soups, sauces, and smoothies that are filled with fresh fruits and vegetables as opposed to store bought ones that high in sodium and added sugars. Almost all of my students have parents, grandparents, and even themselves who have high blood pressure and are diabetic. These same students rely on SNAP benefits to provide meals at home which are often filled with sugar, salt, and added calories from fat. The genetic testing kit will focus on students I target that meet specific requirements such as obesity and possibly a genetic like to high blood pressure and diabetes so that they can have an early start in trying to manage healthier eating habits for good nutrition that is specific to them.
