This past spring we did several lessons on the life cycle of the butterfly. I ordered caterpillars and we saw them go from "very hungry caterpillars" to beautiful butterflies in a matter of weeks. The students were amazed at the transformation! I thought, "Wouldn't it be awesome if the students could experience the life cycle of an animal that they can actually touch and care for?"
The students will learn so much more than the life cycle of a duck; they will learn empathy and respect for another living creature by caring for ducklings/ducks. This experience will help to build responsibility among the students as well. Students will help feed and clean after the ducklings/ducks. It would be awesome for my students to experience nature at this level!
