My project allows students to choose what seats they wish to sit in. This project is aimed at improving classroom discussion in a U.S. Government class. My students are seniors who will benefit from a more comfortable classroom seating. There are bouncy seats, wobble chairs, and cushions included in this project.
These seats will generate student-centered discussion around politics and the US Government. Research has shown increased student performance by allowing students the option to have a variety of seating. Our classroom currently only has traditional desks. These desks are limiting towards creating a collaborative environment, as they are cumbersome to maneuver. These desks are particularly uncomfortable and restrictive in a block period schedule (1 hour 30 minute periods). In this project, I included a variety of seating options to allow a student a choice of what best fits them and their needs. These seating options would be used in the classroom during discussion and project time. Our class is a U.S. Government class where student’s projects and discussions revolve around current politics and political systems. The choice of seating would improve overall classroom environment and generate awesome political discussions and projects. Additionally, students would be allowed to choose which seating choice best fits them for the day, allowing the students to have a more comfortable classroom.
