My room is not your typical classroom, it takes shape in the form of a dance studio. You will not see my students at desks, in chairs or with shoes on. My students, specifically the 35 members of the Varsity Competitive Dance Team, aim to leave class/practice everyday better than they arrived. Increased stamina, flexibility and performance quality are their daily goals. Our dancers work just as hard outside of rehearsal as they do inside to realize their potential. Competitive sports are quite expensive and our students must participate in many events and fundraisers to fulfill the necessary financial responsibilities to compete at the regional and national level. Our students work part time jobs to help them afford the costumes, transportation, registration, food costs, etc of competing. Common thoughts in 2018: "teenagers are lazy", "this generation is entitled"...these thoughts do not describe my students.
