The iPad that my students currently have access to in speech therapy is outdated and does not support newer applications for assistive technology and language activities. I requested a newer version from our technology department, but there was nothing available.
Once the students have access to the latest version of iPad, they will be able to use a variety of applications as well as a camera to improve their speech and language skills. The following are examples of how the iPad will be used in speech therapy:
- Video Modeling so the students can see themselves communicating successfully.
- Applications that model and allow practice for tone of voice and body language.
- Applications for social stories that are written specifically for children and adults with autism that describe social situations and concepts.
- Trialing a variety of communication applications to determine the best fit for each child.
