Students at Summit Elementary read music and learn to play the recorder through a program called the Recorder Karate. They need a recorder in order to do this. Many of my students come from low-income families and can't afford a quality instrument. Having a quality recorder will help students get a head start on band instruments. Students learn to play with a beautiful sound and with an even beat. They learn to put effort into their instrument. They practice a lot to be able to pass of each don't to earn their Recorder Karate belts. Students achieve a since of pride when they earn their belts.
