My students do not own graphing calculators, which limits the complexity of graphs they are able to analyze, and puts them at a disadvantage when taking the CLEP and college entrance exams.
Your generous donation will provide my students with an opportunity to think more deeply about math. My students are primarily African American and Latinx students and are from low-income communities. These students already begin our high school at a disadvantage. Having access to these tools will provide our students with the opportunity to delve into complicated mathematical ideas both visually and mathematically. My students are excited about knowledge and graphing calculators will help deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts.
Graphing calculators in the classroom will enrich student understanding of advanced mathematical concepts. This technology will not only aid in student conceptual understanding of math but will also be a catalyst for critical thinking because students will be able to access more information than can be uncovered with pencil and paper. Becoming proficient at how to use a graphing calculator will also prepare students for success in the CLEP and in college.
In addition, it will provide the students with a tool that most students at other schools have access to. Thank you for helping me prepare my students for college success!
