I'm requesting a variety of sewing materials and accessories including machine needles, tracing paper, scissors, seam rippers, magnetic wands, blue marking pens, a Proctor-Silex iron, chalk pencils, and different colored Fabric by the Yard. Students will use these materials, tools, and equipment to create clothing, blankets, pillows, etc. They'll learn how to hand sew and use a sewing machine. This opportunity will allow students learn content and skills they otherwise will not learn in school. This will foster students to think beyond the basics of Family and Consumer Science class and see that this skill can be useful throughout life and even in a future career. Many students in this rural community will need these basic life skills to receive entry-level positions. While working on various projects students will collaborate, read, problem solve, learn new terminology and content, and show their ability through the creation of their project.
