In our classroom we love to learn about lots of cultures and traditions. Minnesota Social Studies Standard K.4.19.1 says Identify how different families and communities celebrate or commemorate events and engage in respectful conversation about traditions within an individual’s family/community and those of other families/communities. This year we have learned about a myriad of cultures and celebrations. We have studied holidays like Diwali, Ramadan and Eid, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Hanukkah, Lunar New Year, Christmas, Kwanza, and more. In this picture we were learning about Lunar New Year, specifically about Korean Lunar New Year. This year was the year of the dragon. After learning about the holiday for a few days we culminated our studies by making our own dragons to celebrate Lunar New Year. Later in the year we did a deep dive into the country of Korea for our Collaboration of Cultures Fair.
