It is my hope that this project will not only excite my students and increase their hunger for reading, but it will also strengthen my school and home partnership. I want my students to not only read but to also enjoy reading and reading more with their families!
A Take-Home Book Bag Project will help my students read outside of school and become successful readers by involving their families.
Many of my students do not have a variety of books at home in order to read on a regular basis. These picture books, early readers, and chapter books will give students the opportunity to take books home as often as they like. The bags will not only be a way in which the students can take their books home, but it also will provide them with a way to organize and take care of their books.
What also has been important to me is to select books in both English and Spanish for this project. I believe that this will be incredibly helpful for my students and families that speak Spanish and will allow for families to play an important role in their child's reading success.
In addition to the books and the book bags, students will complete comprehension tasks and activities after reading their book. The tasks and activities are meant to be completed with family involvement. I feel that this will not only strengthen my student's reading skills, but it will also strengthen the relationship between my student and their family!
