In order to keep up with advancements in education, classrooms must change. Change is needed in the way we as teachers deliver content as well the environments in which our children learn. Redesigning the way classrooms look is essential to creating 21st century learners. Flexible seating offers choice and is conducive to open communication and collaboration, preparing students for a global world.
I plan to create several unique spaces in my classroom where students can feel at ease and comfortable in their learning environment. Lounging on an oversized bean bag in the library area of our classroom, students can sprawl out and read a book. An artificial grass rug, tree pillows, and camping chairs, will recreate a community campfire area. Portable cushions can be taken anywhere to meet with other students or to be alone. Students can even sit around a small bistro table to work together to solve equations.
