Learning will never and should never be seen as one-size-fits-all. So, seating within the classroom should not be either! I am requesting these comfy floor cushions for a multitude of reasons. Flexible seating in the classroom allows students to get their hands out of their desks, feel more welcome in a cozier environment, and learn happily with their peers. Over time, I hope to acquire more flexible seating options for my students and get rid of their standard desks.
All students learn in different ways, so choosing the seat that works best for them enables them to take responsibility for their own learning by becoming self-aware of their own needs. Some students like to stand and some students learn better while sitting on the floor. I have taught many, many lessons on the floor and my students have thrived in this setting because it takes away many of the "desk space" distractions. Students and parents have provided feedback that a floor cushion would be helpful for focusing better during learning experiences because the floor is hard. Goldilocks had different seating options! My students deserve the same, so that they can discover something that is "just right" for them.
