Teaching music education in Spring 2020 brought challenge in many different forms. Converting the coffee table in my living room into my music technology teaching station proved to be a lesson in trial and error. My students were so forgiving, understanding, and encouraging as we navigated this new everyday way of teaching. I am excited to have time to plan and prepare a better version!
We just learned that we will start the 20-21 school year with virtual learning. As a band and percussion program, as well as for AP Music Theory, I will need special tools to effectively teach and learn music online.
The focusrite 2i2 has come with high recommendations from music technology experts. The usb interface will allow me to run sound directly to my computer from the microphone (voice and wind instruments) and my teaching piano. This will allow me to create high level lesson videos and conduct live dynamic and engaging lessons for my students.
What is great is that when virtual learning is finished, these items will be returned to the classroom to be used regularly to record patches for field show competitions, record audio auditions for honor bands, or the sight singing portion of the AP test just to name a few. These items will be an addition to the Band program that will be used for years to come.
