My students are a wonder. I feel blessed everyday to have the opportunity to guide them in their journey's to discovery.
The greatest focus in my classroom is teaching the Human Condition. The students in room 102 spend a great deal of time analyzing stories, so that they can truly understand both themselves and the lessons books can teach. Most of my students live in poverty. They come from families where their parents are working multiple jobs, trying to keep their families afloat, which changes family life at home. My students are some of the strongest individuals I have had the pleasure of teaching. But, they struggle. They struggle financially. They struggle with a supportive network at home. They struggle with finding their place in this world.
And literature can help. Students who find literature that is relevant become readers for life. And that is my goal, to provide growth opportunities for my students.
