My students are first graders in a public school in the state of Indiana. I have 30 students in my class. I have 16 boys and 14 girls. My school is 95% poverty. My students have a great work ethic. They are very eager, intuitive, and ready to read. Many are learning to be independent and take ownership of their own learning. It puts a smile on their faces when they discover they can read and are capable of being successful. They enjoy coming to school and they have a great relationship with their peers.
