Being given the opportunity to create an outdoor classroom for my school will benefit all of the students grades K-5 in so many different ways. Our number of students is quickly growing and unfortunately, it is not as simple for our building to do the same. I am hoping that the addition of this outdoor classroom will help give teachers and support staff a fun, new and exciting place to take their students.
This is a very large project and every single bit will help this blank canvas become a masterpiece that our students help create by implementing all parts of STEAM. The raised garden bed that I am requesting will be placed in the corner of our outdoor classroom. The students will use this piece in many different ways. Students will be able to use this garden bed to learn math concepts (such as volume, area, perimeter, addition, subtraction, etc.) The gardening tools and watering cans that I am requesting will be used to plant and maintain the plants in the garden bed. They are tools that will be able to be used over and over again but are essential to have. It was important to get a variety of tools because of the various grades that will be working in the outdoor classroom. Students will be using these requested materials to learn science and health concepts as well. Once the furniture is placed in the outdoor classroom the students will then have their chance to help bring the space to life. Not only will they be growing plants, flowers, and food in the gardening spaces but they will add their touch of art in every aspect of this classroom.
