These materials are needed to create a fleshed out design for our students. Our freshman students will be going through the design process, along with our seniors. They will be using this material to design and cut parts for their particular robot, providing them with an opportunity to learn about machining, 3D modeling, engineering design and manufacturing.
Students will go through the 3D modeling process, understanding how to create a model while making it functional and efficient. Students will be using the material to cut and test their project, which will be mounted on top of the defensive base. Students will also learn how to machine and manufacture parts. Polycarbonate is one of the most expensive resources, which will dig into our "build season" expenses. We want to ensure that our students are able to succeed without limiting materials. Polycarbonate is much stronger than acrylic, and works a lot better than MDF for the defensive robot.
