One of the most important programs we use is Imagine Math. It allows students to learn essential third grade skills required by the State of Texas. Research has been conducted on the program in Houston ISD, and those students passing at least 30 grade-level lessons not only were more likely to pass the Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness but also scored higher than their peers who were not enrolled or did not participate in the program.
We use the research-based math technology program, Imagine Math, daily in our classroom to learn the Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills. Our school has the most lessons passed in the district. Not only that, but our school scored highest in the district on the state readiness tests, evidence the program is working for us.
Another program we use in our class is XtraMath. This program allows students to learn all of their math facts--addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. When they have mastered one operation, they receive a certificate. This is especially helpful in third grade because students are required to learn and memorize their multiplication facts. It is the building block for everything they will do in math going forward in their student career and quite possibly the workforce.
Obviously, tablets are not only used for Math and Science but Reading and other subjects as well. For example, students can read and complete Accelerate Reader tests to improve and grow in Reading when they are finished with their math assignments for the day.
