As a Pre-K teacher who has been a public school teacher for over 25 years, I know and respect the value of community. Our students come from a variety of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, and many are ELL students. My students have always responded well to hands-on experiences, and learn best through kinesthetic activities. Their parents are actively-involved in their academic success, and taking a look back at their growth as readers, writers, and artists would be beneficial to provide closure to a fun-filled year of learning, as well as to set the stage for the school year ahead.
Students will both enjoy looking back and reminiscing about their first year of school, as well as relish their accomplishments as they begin to think about moving on to kindergarten. They are eager learners who love to demonstrate all that they have learned, and a Moving-Up ceremony is an ideal forum in which to do that.
