The children I work with have limited communication and social skills, some endure cognitive and physical limitations, and all have sensory processing difficulties. These hurdles make traditional educational impossible and requires lessons to be out of the box. Having access to iPads in this special education classroom provides us with a media that the students can: make and watch their own social stories to target socials skills and learning new tasks, participate in motivating educational games, provides opportunities for social interaction and turn-taking, helps support fine motor skills as well as hand eye coordination, can be used as a communication device, and provides another way to collect data to help teachers create the best individualized program for each student.
