As a middle school team, we are committed to teaching students about accountability, respect, and the importance of a positive attitude. With these items, we will create a school store to reward students for their continued dedication to maintaining the norms we have established.
The school store will solidify the importance of upholding our norms and contributing to a successful community. As we work to establish a culture of accountability and mutual respect, this project will allow students to see the benefits of being a contributing member to our community. We also hope that it will contribute to our students' sense of personal responsibility both for behavior and "money" management.
We have chosen items from Amazon in which our students expressed interest. This serves the purpose of allowing us to work with them on setting achievable goals and learning to take responsibility for their actions and behavior. Many of them have already planned which items they are working for! These include a hoverboard for the adventurous and a basketball for the athletic to keep them active during the summer. We also chose a couple of tablets for our avid readers and gamers. Small items such as decorative pens and sharpies appeal to our more artistic students who enjoy doodling and drawing. Some of our younger and engineering-minded students love Legos so we also added a few sets of these. All of our kids enjoy music but are constantly losing their earbuds, so we included several sets of these. Finally, we included gift cards to Starbucks, Subway, and Fandango. We want our kids to be safe and healthy during the summer. These gift cards are a way for our students to earn a meal or a night of entertainment simply by doing the best that they can in school.
