All 7th grade students read Unbroken, the story of Louie Zamperini, a veteran of World War II. The majority of my students have very little, if any, background knowledge of this war. My students need the trade book, World War II, to gain information about this gripping historical event. World War II is a concise, colorful and intriguing booklet. This exceptional informational text will allow my students to learn about World War II authentically, bringing to life history through photos, interviews, maps and engaging text. Students will also gain knowledge through primary and secondary sources. Utilizing this resource as an introduction and pre-reading activity will allow students to grasp the basis of this war and why our soldiers were fighting, defending, and willing to die for our country.
