My students need flexible seating in our classroom library to make a more welcoming environment. My students will use bean bag chairs, pillows, and other furniture items to get comfortable during reading center time as well as independent reading opportunities. They will be able to use these items in our reading centers, where they are required to read with a buddy, do hands on activities, and read independently. They would be more engaged and more comfortable if they had soft chairs and pillows to use, rather than just their hard chairs or the floor to sit on.
I am trying to create lifelong readers, and to do that I need the appropriate materials to set up the physical space of my classroom library. It is proven that comfortable chairs, pillows, and other furnishings are more likely to create engagement with books. Some students only have the opportunity to read books while at school, so when they are in my classroom I want their reading experience to be one that expands their love for reading!
