I'm the coach of the Academic Decathlon team at West Adams Prep. H.S. This team consists of motivated students who study 10 subjects based on 1 theme to compete with other high schools. We wear our team jackets at the competitions to show pride/unity. West Adams is a school located in a low-income community, meaning that each year there's very limited funding from the school for sports/team activities. Most of the time, students are unable to pay for their own expenses. I've worked with this amazing team for 3 years and it's a struggle to get the different materials needed. It's very heartbreaking and disappointing to see these students receive less than they deserve. These students have worked hard all year long, studying during/after school and even dedicating their time on weekends/breaks. These jackets will not only symbolize a unified team, but it'll remind them of the dedication they've demonstrated this year.
