We have an extraordinarily large population of special needs students at my school. Many are not even diagnosed as special needs because their disabilities were caused by experiencing a traumatic event.
Kids who have suffered trauma act in many of the same ways as autistic children.
We have a nearly empty sensory room at school that would benefit many of our students if we could only fill it with trampolines, tunnels, balance boards, and any other items that help prevent children from experiencing sensory overload. We also serve two classrooms of life skills and two classrooms of emotionally disabled students, and they would also benefit from an amazing sensory room.
