The area in front of our classroom is a sacred place. We join together as a classroom community during morning meetings, small groups for math, read alouds, and class discussions. Right now most of my students choose to sit in chairs because the floor in our portable classroom isn't very comfortable.
By having a rug, it will create a more welcoming space that my students are excited about. In 5th grade, our students are starting to understand the importance of STEAM at school. We are all scientists, technicians, engineers, mathematicians, and artists. Together we make up a 5th grade class of future leaders in these fields.
