I teach in a diverse school. We love to learn and grow together, but we lack access to books that reflect our student population. Our school has a goal to improve our literacy skills this year and I plan to do that by putting powerful books that reflect the lives of the readers. Providing more equitable and diverse texts in my classroom is my goal because in my experience, students connect best with texts that reflect their own experiences and life.
These are all carefully chosen "mirror texts," that will help me teach the necessary reading strategies to all the students in my classroom.
These are the types of books that turn students into forever readers, even outside the walls of a classroom, or halls of a school.
