We are a small rural school in eastern Kentucky. Our students are not exposed to the arts until their freshman year. This puts my students at a great disadvantage.
Many of my students come from poverty, divorce, drugs and hopelessness. Art, the act of participating in painting, can become an outlet, or a much needed distraction. It may also inspire our next Vincent Van Gogh!
We will use the canvases to do a series of acrylic paintings in the style of Vincent Van Gogh. This will teach them technique, art history and color theory. It will also hopefully instill in them a love for painting.
