Flexible seating gives students options and allows them to make the choice that is best for their learning. Students will learn to pick a seating option that will help them be successful in completing their work. Giving students choices in the classroom helps motivate them and gives them a sense of independence. I have used a yoga ball in the past and have noticed that my students are more focused and get their work done. I have noticed similar things when I've given students options about where to sit when completing independent work. They are excited and on task.
I have seen that when students are given choices about where to work in the classroom, they're motivated, engaged, and show responsibility and independence.
I have chosen seating products that will give my students more of a choice than sitting at their desk or working on the floor. They'll be able to try different seating options and choose the appropriate one for them. Beanbag chairs and floor seats will allow students to sit comfortably on the floor, while still maintaining a seated position. They can be moved anywhere in the room which allows for an additional choice. The wobble stools are helpful for students who are wiggly and can be a safer alternative for those who tip their chairs back. Yoga balls also help wiggly students make a safe choice and they build students' core strength.
Giving students choices about where they sit will show students that they're trusted and will help them become independent learners.
