Especially in middle school, it's important for students to find healthy ways to express themselves and their thoughts. I found that myself through music, which is why I've incorporated music in my Expressions class, but I know that some students find this outlet in visual art.
Having recently read the book "The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse" inspired me to create an art project where the students create art using a quote and characters in the style of that book. This art project evolved into more than one project and the start of something bigger, such as a painting unit.
Because my students physically come to school two days a week, I want to ensure that what we do at school is physically engaging because at home, they're behind a computer screen so much of the time. Giving them the tools to paint will allow them a chance to explore in ways they maybe wouldn't otherwise and an opportunity to try a new art medium.
This Ðǿմ«Ã½ project will fund enough canvas for one project, enough paper for 4 projects, enough paintbrushes so students don't have to share during class, and enough paint to last me through several projects.
