Young children learn through using multiple senses simultaneously. Having a sensory table will give my students the opportunity to play utilizing multiple senses to help build cognitive skills. Research shows that hands on learning leads to abstract thought as they grow and develop. Cognitive skills such as math skills are developed through spatial awareness and pattern recognition with objects in the sensory table.
By providing students with materials, like sand, they can physically manipulate, play with and explore, I can help them learn about spatial awareness, observation skills, social skills, and exploration.
My students would be so excited to have this area in our classroom and will utilize it daily!
