I think I have the best job in the school. I am so grateful to work with circles of young women in the 6th-12th grades to cultivate leadership, voice, community, and self-confidence. I lead several support groups that meet once a week for an entire semester to build a sense solidarity and sisterhood. In our circles we practice mindfulness, share deeply, and have safe space to express our own unique and similar experiences as young women. The art supplies including glitter, pom-poms, paint, and ribbons are just the resources that these young women need to find their own inner magic, beauty and power. We make power wands that lift up our strengths and gifts. We make magic mirrors that uphold our inner and outer beauty. We paint peace rocks, having a little piece of nature to bring into our homes to create a little corner of peace. We decorate journals, having safe space to tell our stories and record our dreams. This is the most powerful work with young people I have ever done. Thank you so much for valuing and affirming the voices, experiences, gifts, and stories of these beautiful young women! These resources will have a huge impact on the way these young women uphold themselves.
