The laptop I am requesting is long overdue. This is my 24th year teaching in Cleveland. Since March, I have been doing all my Zoom meetings with my smartphone. My district will be using Schoology, which is a learning management program; and it is designed to work in communication with parents and students. Students will be able to access assignments and greetings I will have posted on a weekly basis. Parents will also be able to connect and see assignments, directions, and due dates.
Most first grade students are unable to read fluently and I will need to be able to READ STORIES to them, GIVE DIRECTIONS, and constantly SHOW EXAMPLES. I will also need to have an ongoing dialogue with my parents for an array of reasons. Schoology works best when in constant communication with parents. This technology (with webcam and microphone) is especially important this year because I will not be greeting my class in person. Should I be assigned 2nd language learners as I was last year, the technology will allow me to readily communicate with parents that do not understand English. I would be able to record a greeting using a bilingual paraprofessional that speaks the language.
When I am teaching a math lesson, with this technology, I would be able to show my students step-by-step directions and give examples. This will also allow me to read stories to my class and show them pictures.
This will be the "portal" I use to reach and teach my class! This will help me teach all core subjects and I look forward to learning all that is capable with this tool!
