My favorite part about teaching Junior Kindergarten is that each day, I am not only able to provide meaningful activities for young learners, but I also get to step back and watch them progress in their own time. While still ensuring that students have access to books of interest, or "Look Books," providing my students with the opportunity to delve into "Just Right" texts is the next natural step in their reading journey. With these books readily available to them, they are able to genuinely apply key concepts that they are learning in the classroom. Leveled readers will assist in the literacy development of our future Kindergarteners by enhancing their Concepts about Print knowledge and their ability to apply the use of cues while reading. Ultimately, my goal is to encourage my students to live a reading life. A well-balanced classroom library will allow me to continue to support young learners who love reading!
