My first grade students are in need of kid friendly, durable, easy to use CD players to listen to the many favorite children books with matching cds I have collected over the years.
These CD players will help my students continue to become independent learners with choices.
Listening to fluent reading, while following along with the book, helps children continue building literacy skills necessary for life long reading. These skills include but are not limited to: increasing comprehension, vocabulary, word/sound relations and fluency. They are beginning the foundation needed to excel at reading.
We use The Daily 5 framework for our literacy learning so students develop lifelong habits of reading, writing, and working independently.
During the Daily 5, students develop these habits through several different concepts. One of those concepts is Listening to Reading. Listening to Reading allows my students to build the necessary literacy skills through listening to books on CD, cassette tapes, and tablets. The problem is, the personal CD players I had, lived a long, well used life and no longer work. Adding 3 CD players will allow my students to benefit from Listening to Reading, with materials available in our classroom, during the Daily 5.
