Each school year, my students ask me the same question: can we add more graphic novels to the classroom library? My biggest goal this year is to help my students find a book they love and establish a culture of independent reading in our class. Reading at least 20 minutes a day not only yields greater gains in reading abilities, but also increases students' success in high school and beyond! I firmly believe that everyone can find a joy in reading and get lost in a story--you just need to find the right book! Bringing in some of the newest, most captivating graphic novels and young adult novels will help our students get excited about reading and give them a larger variety to explore their own interests. Our students with learning disabilities or struggling readers will be able to find a book that is both interesting and accessible to them! I aspire for our students to dive deep into their books in class, and hopefully fuel that interest outside of the classroom.
