In an attempt to flip my classroom, I have begun using Google Classroom, an online site where teachers have the ability to post a variety of materials, which students can access including but not limited to assignments, notes, videos, and articles. Because many students do not have access to a computer outside of school, these Chromebooks will be used for students who are unable to access those materials otherwise. In addition to Google Classroom, my students will be using nearpod, an online presentation service that allows teachers to present material at a fixed pace or student paced. They will also use quizlet, an online flashcard service where teachers create flashcards and students use them to study in several different formats. The goal with each of these online services is to maximize student participation by providing a diverse presentation of the abstract subject of chemistry and therefore, expand their level of comprehension Because of Hurricane Harvey, my students missed critical instructional time and many lost their homes and personal belongings. Because of this, they are at a disadvantage to their national peers. School is a welcoming place where they can express themselves in an environment free of judgment, something many of my students lack at home. Donations to this project will allow my students the educational experience they deserve by revealing opportunities to bolster their academic ability today and innovation in the future.
