My goal as a physical education teacher is to equip students with the necessary skills to be healthy and active for the remainder of their lives. The best way I know to do this is to offer a variety of activities for the students to engage in. The more activities students get to try out, the more likely they will be to find one that fits for them. I want to stray away from traditional sports such as basketball and baseball and allow my students experience activities that they may have never been exposed to before.
My biggest passion in life is rock climbing, which is why I want introduce my students to it, in hopes that they will fall in love with the adventure and outdoor aspect of the sport just as I did.
I was introduced to climbing in college and I wish I would have found it earlier in life. The problem is exposure! My goal is to teach all 185 of my students how to put on a harness, tie in correctly, and belay a friend safely. I then plan on connecting with my local climbing gym to offer my students discounted day passes to try it out for real (this is already in the works). I am super excited about the opportunity to offer this to my students. All I need is the equipment to make it possible.
