The benefits of flexible seating include burning more calories, using up excess energy, improving metabolism, increasing student motivation, increased engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, improving core strength, and overall posture! Flexible seating for a student centered classroom gives students a choice in what kind of learning space works for them. It also helps students to work collaboratively, increase student to student communication, and engage in critical thinking. The stools will be used for students who want to work while standing but still want the option to sit if needed. The Big Joe Lumin chairs will be used to give students a comfortable, safe, and calming place to work. The Donut Balls will be used for students who work best while sitting at a table close to the floor. All of these seating options will allow students to work in an environment that is most suitable for them, while also allowing them to work collaboratively. The flexible seating will be used for multiple classrooms at my elementary.
