I am a first year teacher who is placed in a classroom that is supposed to house fifth graders as opposed to kindergarteners. Therefore, my kids lack a lot of the resources that come with kinder classrooms due to them being in a classroom that is not necessarily equipped for them. A lot of the school materials and manipulative are not as easily accessed by them because they are hidden away in cabinets that all look the same and that are not as easily opened by them.
I'm requesting one Heavy-Duty 20-Cubby Unit. Having the cubbies will aid the kids in feeling that the classroom is truly theirs to explore. They will be able to easily locate and attain the manipulatives or resources needed to complete the task at hand. The classroom should be theirs and as inviting to them as possible; this is their first year exposed to learning and to classroom space, my goal is to make it a positive one.
