While analyzing my data this year, I noticed that my students had the lowest percentages in nonfiction text. With limited exposure to nonfiction text students are having trouble with comprehension.
I feel that if my students had access to Scholastic News Magazine we could dig into the world around us and also study the nonfiction structure of writing.
I plan to use this magazine in a small group setting. We will study not only the content but also the different literary elements in it. The only way some of my students can see other places is by reading and learning about it through nonfiction text.
