Our lives are shaped by the experiences we have. Ideally, these experiences come in the form of traveling to a new destination that allows us to discover a new culture, food, and language. However, for students that come from a low socioeconomic status, these experiences are often only offered via literature. Therefore, having access to an expansive bilingual library can help students not only advance their reading, but more so even offer the experiences that will shape their minds and hopefully one day spark their curiosity to experience the world. Our bilingual classroom is in need of a variety of Spanish books to help students develop rich, academic, and culturally diverse language skills and to expand their vocabularies. Additionally, it is also a way to help them not lose interest in their primary language. Thus, having a variety of high interest books in Spanish is crucial. I am happy to say that my students already love and enjoy literature. Yet, I would really like to see them indulge in more Spanish books. As earlier explained, this is their trial run before they go out and explore the world. So I want them to have a multitude of books to help prepare them. Finally, rest assured knowing that your donation will also help students have a peaceful and inviting space to develop language, question their thinking, and perhaps at times, allow our students with the highest needs to escape, if only for a bit through each of the lines read in the books that you will help provide.
