My students need basic supplies to spark creative expression and learn organizational skills. These items will not only encourage my students' intellectual growth, they will assist in improving the classroom environment so that things can run smoothly and neither myself nor my students need to worry about being without something. Even just having sharpened pencils ready to be handed out greatly simplifies our day as distractions and disruptions are minimized. A presenter tool will also aide in improving the flow of instruction. Markers, colored pencils, and ledger-sized paper will assist students in maximizing their creativity and demonstrate their knowledge by making posters and travel brochures. An iPad will allow me to better and more reliably implement a classroom management system which "gameifies" my class, where students earn points for positive behavior. Having many different color folders available will assist in organizing student work and minimizing the amount of work that is lost, helping students keep their grades up and minimizing the number of copies I need to make.
Creativity and organization are lifelong skills which require the proper supplies. Some students are naturally inclined to possess these attributes, but many need additional supports. By having my classroom organized and fully stocked, students will be able to focus on developing their skills and not stressed that they do not have a pencil.
