My 4th-grade team each have classes of 31/32 students. We have approximately 93 4th grade students. Of those 93 students, 58 of them are reading below a 2nd-grade reading level.
Our reading program has leveled readers for us to use for small group instruction, however, those readers are based at or above grade level.
Our students aren't able to read and understand the material that is given to us. Not only are they not able to read it, but the stories aren't interesting. We want our students to be excited about reading stories they like.
We have many novels at our school as well, but those are too advanced for our students. We really are in need of books that our students can read that are interesting to them.
