In 5th grade, one life science topic that is covered is that students must support an argument with evidence, data, or a model that plants get the materials they need for growth chiefly from air and water.
Students will investigate the needs of plants, by manipulating 1 of 4 variable (water, sunlight, oxygen, soil) to come to the conclusion that plants mainly need air and water to survive.
The greenhouse provides students with an ideal hospitable environment for plant growth. The soil and starter trays are needed to grow the plants. Throughout the unit, students will collect data of plant growth and record models to later use as evidence for their arguments.
