Over the course of my teaching career, I've noticed the increase in cell phone distractions and it's negative impact on student progress. Don't get me wrong - I think there is definitely a place for technology and cell phones in the classroom, but under teacher discretion.
I've gone to such lengths as showing my students actual scientific data that supports the idea that "multi-tasking" is not conducive to learning. Even with this evidence, students are addicted to the constant influx of notifications.
In my efforts to better help my students be more successful, I'd like to install a cell phone locker where students can safely store their devices during class time.
