My students are amazing about digesting information, videos, and applications that they use daily through technology. But this makes them passive "users" of technology instead of "creators". They will be encouraged to try new things. We hope they fail more than once before they find solutions, because their failures will lead them through different ways to succeed. At our library we want to encourage students to get hands-on with coding and to create, instead of just using the products others have already created for them. We have carefully selected devices like the Dash and Dot robots as well as Lego hands on coding kits for our students to use to foster this "create" zone. After students have the basics down, they will have the flexibility and freedom to begin exploring using a multitude of other coding and robotics programs. Because every student learns differently, and is interested in different things, we want to allow a lot of flexibility, choices, and control of the types of products they can use to explore with. They would be able to use small, computer based products, like Pixil Kit, or larger iPad based products like Dash and Dot.
