I am re-designing my library space to include flexible learning commons. One part of this is creating a recording studio area where students can record school news broadcasts, book commercials, and market their design projects.
As E. H.’s core beliefs state, “We expect all children to reach their fullest potential as learners and achieve career or college readiness” (E. H. Public Schools Core Beliefs). Having an environment available in the school to nurture career and college readiness is essential for me.
The International Society for Technology in Education Standard 7 recognizes learners as global collaborators. It states, “Students use digital tools to broaden their perspectives and enrich their learning by collaborating with others and working effectively in teams locally and globally” (ISTE Standards). By providing a recording studio, students can design technologically advance projects which help them to build the skill necessary for their careers.
The iPad will be used to record in various mediums and the MacBook will be used to edit the recordings in programs such as IMovie.
